The most common language spoken in Hong Kong is Cantonese. One would be able to notice this language in the media as well as everywhere promoting the country. English, although spoken and used are somewhat limited. Most Hongkese understand English but are less than happy to converse in it as they prefer speaking in their so called mother tongue.

 In recent years, mandarin has taken much of centerstage in conversations around the country due to reasons like returning to China, opening of the economy to Chinese businesses and expanding of entertainment industry to China and Taiwan, but the proficiency are still at its infancy, therefore for the mandarin speakers, there are still some difficulty around.
