There are various attractions apart from shopping in Hong Kong. One should take note that the night scene of Hong Kong is one of the best. One should not leave Hong Kong without seeing it. The best place to see this is via Victoria Peak, a local favourite. At the huge Wok Shaped Peak Tower, one can see the Hong Kong Island (especially at night) in awe.
The local Hong Kong Tourism Board, in their efforts to promote tourism has effectively made Nature Kaleidoscope Walk and Architecture Walk on of their award deserving services for the tourists.
The Temple of Ten Thousand Buddhas is one of the most famous temples one should visit. Here the tourist would be able to view over ten thousand Buddha statues. Located in this landmark is a pagoda which serves great vegetarian food.
The Po Lin Monastery and the Tien Tan Buddha statue is located in Ngong Ping where one can view the huge golden Buddha Statue in Lantau Island.
The Hong Kong Museum of History provides the best place for the tourist to find out more about the history of Hong Kong. This is where one can view the stories in the so called 3D view as there are a lot of mock ups on display instead of the usual boring behind the glass exhibitions.
In Lantau Island, one is able to enjoy nature at its best. There are among many fishing villages, resorts, monasteries, beach side hotels and it’s a local favourite destination for camping, hiking and picnics.
The Hong Kong Wetland Park is also a favourite among tourists. It is a serene natural park where one can appreciate the nature of beauty and the wildlife as well.
At the Sai Kung Peninsula, there are various highlands one can climb and be awed by the spectacular hillside landscapes of Hong Kong.
Who can deny the ever always spoke about Ocean Park. Located in the south of Hong Kong Island, this is by far one of the most frequented theme parks in around this region. Often welcomed by roller coasters and water activities, the parked has been around for almost 30 years. This has always been the theme park of choice for the locals who have been so accustomed to this place over the years. With the panda in for viewing the attractions here seemed to get better. The inbuilt aquarium and the dolphin shows has been around for so long that one can always identify Hong Kong with them.
Hong Kong Disneyland opened in 2005. Located in Lantau Island, this is definitely a smaller version of the originals but provide tourist in around Asia a chance to experience this franchise.
Horse Racing is a local favourite. From September to June, there are various race courses around Hong Kong that are bursting with activities and competitions. Happy Valley is one of them and its always filled with people who watches this sports fanatically.
As much as there are modern facilities and great theme parks, Hong Kong has its own range of beach side attractions as well. Being an island, there are basically beaches all around Hong Kong but there are various ones that are more commonly frequented.
Repulse Bay, located at the south of Hong Kong island is one of the local favourites. Middle Bay, not far from Repulse Bay is also a favourite although it has to be noted that this is very common with the gay community. Shek O is another beach that is always frequented by the locals and Big Wave Bay, a favourite among surfers. This would normally take place in around Summer as the year end would be a bit too cold for that.
At Sharp Peak and Ham Tin Beach, a lot of hikers can be seen. As the weather is mostly cooling, hiking is one of the best recreational activities for the locals here. Visiting the peaks around Hong Kong, one can normally see the older folks taking strolls or just sitting around. A local pastime Tai Qi Qong is also widely practiced and taught in the parks.
Avenue of the Stars
This is Hong Kong if not Asia’s own edition of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Avenue of the Stars is used to commemorate the stars and celebrities of the Hong Kong Acting Industry. On the other hand, one can see a light and laser performance called A Symphony of Lights which is on every night at 8.00pm. Recorded and certified by the Guinness World of Records to be the worlds ‘Largest Permanent Light and Sound Show’, this performance is in English on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays are in Cantonese.
